Ultra-low carbon precast concrete

Every product manufactured by SigmaRoc’s Precast Product Group (PPG) is available in a cement-free ultra-low carbon option. We develop and implement cutting-edge solutions and are delivering projects today, and at scale, revolutionising the way forward for sustainable construction. If you are serious about lowering your carbon footprint in construction, we should talk.

GreenCem technology

GreenCem is at the forefront of innovation in ultra-low carbon concrete. We develop and implement cutting-edge solutions and are delivering projects today, and at scale, revolutionising the way forward for sustainable construction.

By leveraging new and existing technologies, our dynamic approach ensures that new innovations are brought to the market efficiently, and are rapidly scaled to achieve manufacturing-level production.

We are proud to combine our internally developed innovations with external collaborations, supporting and advancing the future of eco-friendly concrete technologies together.

GreenCem technology has made significant strides in sustainable development across the SigmaRoc business. At CCP, for example, all of our standard blocks offer up to a 50% carbon reduction, which has saved over 6,000 tonnes of CO2 since its introduction, at no additional cost to our customers.

Cement-free technology

Cement-free technology

At Poundfield Precast cement-free technology is used on a daily basis for environmentally significant bespoke projects. Achieving savings of over 80% reduction in the carbon embodiment of pre-cast concrete, Poundfield has become the leading UK producer of cement-free pre-cast concrete, producing more wet-cast cement free concrete per day than any other precast company and underscoring the industry’s shift towards more sustainable practices.

The use of ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS) instead of clinker can have a significant effect on lowering embodied carbon. CEM III/B contains up to 80% GGBS and has a 73% lower embodied carbon than Portland Cement (CEM I). This technology has been used in projects such as retaining walls for HS2, the expansion of Portland Port deep water berth, and wall panels for London Chapter Bridge, to name just a few.

Carbon-negative concrete blocks

We’ve achieved a leap in innovation through the production of a carbon-negative-cement-free concrete block, which boasts a 115% carbon reduction. Created using Greenbloc cement-free technology, combined with carbon-negative aggregate produced from waste materials and captured carbon, the block shows all the same characteristics and performance as standard equivalent cement-based blocks. It is expected to become part of an extended future range as a result of our partnership with Mevo at CCP.
