It was a little over 12 years ago when the bespoke division of Poundfield Precast was established and since then the business has seen a rapid rise to become a major player in the supply of bespoke precast concrete in the UK.

The business originally started off supplying bespoke precast concrete to one of the biggest multi-storey car park suppliers in the UK, and who is still an important customer today. Poundfield now work with a wide range of blue-chip clients and projects, ranging from coastal and river defence work, civils, railways through to major infrastructure projects for the likes of the Highways Agency, Network Rail and Tideway, to name but a few.

In 2017 Poundfields became part of SigmaRoc, a major construction materials company, and since then they have seen exponential growth on the back of what was already a significant position in the marketplace. SigmaRoc recognised the opportunities available to Poundfields and have been instrumental in providing the financial support and expertise to allow them to enter new markets and undertake even bigger projects.

While Poundfield’s standard range of precast concrete products solve everyday problems, many construction projects require bespoke units to fulfil a very specific task. The bespoke division can offer one-off specials through to many thousands of units for a single project,

With mould manufacturing facilities on-site Poundfield can create unique pieces of any shape and specialist finishes can be applied during the casting stage.

The department is further supported by a team of designers and technicians who offer a comprehensive service from design through to finish on any customised requirements.

With 2020 proving to be one of the most difficult years in living memory Poundfield continued to see significant growth. Tim Evans, Director of Bespoke said “It was vital for us to keep all our employees safe whilst continuing to supply a number of key infrastructure projects. We put in place essential Covid-19 procedures to keep both our staff and customers safe, whilst still being able to run the business effectively. With a large project for the NHS being in production when the first lockdown began it was imperative to complete this on time and get the car park open as soon as possible.”

“We were also about to start a major road infrastructure project at the same time and we recruited an extra 50 members of staff to help fulfil the contracts. We are proud to say that both projects were completed on time, importantly with no positive cases of the virus reported, and we were also able to offer a number of the new recruits full time contracts when the jobs were completed” said Tim.

Michael Roddy, Managing Director of SigmaPPG said “it’s important to us as a business that we support our local community, both in terms of employing staff but also investing in our facilities, as well as working with local suppliers. Some of the people we have employed had lost their jobs in other companies due to Covid-19 and we have been really pleased to have been able to offer them new opportunities.”

Going forward Poundfield have their eyes set on further growth, and the business has bought extra land at their site in Creeting St Peter to facilitate this. “In addition to investing in our site in Suffolk, we also plan to open two new sites in South Wales and the North West, which will allow us to be closer to our customers projects, providing us with a broader national coverage.” said Michael Roddy.

“Coupled with our growing team, a phenomenal reputation and major ambitions for future growth, our bespoke division at Poundfield will continue to offer innovative solutions to our customers in the design, manufacture and supply of bespoke precast concrete throughout the UK.”
